Demonstrates that different subgroups in the population described by various economic and demographic characteristics have different levels of greenhouse gas emissions from personal automotive transportation, and that these same characteristics also determine other household emissions. Exploitation of these links between emissions and socioeconomic characteristics is an important aspect of policy design, which has been previously overlooked, and which suggests a much broader set of potential policy options for mitigating emissions than previously considered.
