WILD WINTER WEATHER
Shortly after the stories about last year's
temperature had appeared, an intense blizzard struck the east coast of the U.S.,
prompting more references in the popular press to climate change. On January 22,
1996, a Newsweek magazine cover story explained how weather extremes of
several types could be consistent with greenhouse-gas induced climate change.
(See Periodicals/General Interest, Global Climate Change Digest, Feb.
1996.) The New York Times ran a similar article (p. 4, Jan. 14).
The February 5 issue of World Climate Review contains critical
commentary on both pieces.
