Published July 1988 through June 1999

Item #d95mar59

OECD/Environmental Performance Reviews. A series that examines environmental trends and conditions in Member countries, and conducts peer reviews of the progress toward improvement. Uses broad economic and environmental data to support the reviews. To obtain copies contact OECD Pubs., 2001 L St. NW, S-700, Washington DC 20036 (202 785 6323); or OECD, 2, rue André-Pascal, 75775 Paris Cedex 16, France (tel: 33 1 45 24 82 00); or other OECD outlets. Each report costs $29/DM49/FF170. In addition to those listed below, reviews are in preparation for the Netherlands and Poland.

. . .Iceland, 127 pp., June 1993.

. . .Germany, 227 pp., June 1993.

. . .Norway, 150 pp., Nov. 1993.

. . .Portugal, 108 pp., Nov. 1993.

. . .Italy, Nov. 1994.

. . .United Kingdom, Nov. 1994. According to Intl. Environ. Reporter (p. 949, Nov. 16, 1994), although the U.K. is now committed at the highest levels of government to environmental protection and sustainable development, it has yet to make extensive use of economic instruments as part of environmental policy. However, no significant achievements have been seen with respect to NOx, CO2, VOC, and ground-level ozone.

Item #d95mar60

Environmental Indicators. OECD Core Set, 160 pp., 1994, $22/FF115/DM35. Published by OECD, address above.

Contains information for all OECD countries to use as a primary tool for reviewing performance on climate change, acidification and other problems.

Item #d95mar61

The Climate Change Agenda: An Indian Perspective, 1994, $62. Order from TERI (Tata Energy Res. Inst.), 7 Jor Bagh, New Delhi 110 003, India, or 16600 Wilson Blvd., S. 500, Arlington VA 22209.

Item #d95mar62

Economic Impact of Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Australia, Bur. Industry Econ., Dec. 1994.

Suggests that the "no regrets" policy in the National Greenhouse Response Strategy is likely to achieve only 30% of Australia's emission reduction commitment under the climate change convention.

Item #d95mar63

A Climate Change Action Plan for Illinois, Task Force on Global Climate Change, 50 pp., June 1994. Contact ENR Clearinghouse, Dept. Energy & Natural Resour., 325 W. Adams St., Rm. 300, Springfield IL 62074 (tel: 217 785 2800; fax: 217 785 2618).

Recommends emission reduction strategies such as improvements in energy efficiency and conservation programs, expansion of tree planting, and testing the cost effectiveness of joint implementation. Notes that the national research program lacks attention to policy-relevant climate issues critical to Illinois, such as economic, social and environmental impacts of climate change. More state-focused monitoring and applied research are needed. Other actions, considered insurance policies, include revision of water laws to deal with scarcity, consideration of climate change in the design of infrastructure, and development of educational materials.
